Public Hearing Notice- Blighted Building 
The City Council of the City of Sanford, Maine will hold a public hearing on an Ordinance establishing standards for the abatement of blighted buildings as a category of vacant buildings pursuant to City Code, Chapter 149, Licensing; updating the definition for abandonment; establishing a fee for security of dangerous buildings; and other administrative amendments to Article VI.  The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 919 Main Street, Sanford Maine and by remote methods, pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. § 403-B(2)(D) and Section 6 of the City Council Rules of Procedure.  Video and teleconference remote login information to participate by remote methods will be published on the City website on and not necessarily before Saturday March 2, 2024.  The Ordinance can be found on the City website under notices. Public Hearing Notice- Airport Ordinance (Second Reading)
Notice is hereby given that the Sanford City Council will hold a public hearing at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 in person at City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main Street, Third Floor, Sanford, Maine and via remote video and teleconference pursuant to 1 MRSA §403-B (2) (D) and section 6 of the Sanford City Council Rules of Procedure. The purpose of this public hearing is to receive public comments on proposed changes to the City of Sanford Airport Ordinance. Further information on the proposed changes may be obtained through the Airport Manager prior to the public hearing. Written comments and questions should be directed to Allison Navia, Airport Manager, and will be accepted until 5:00 pm on March 4, 2024 at the Airport Manager’s Office, 9 Presidential Lane, Sanford. Sewerage District Pre-Bid Meeting

The Sanford Sewerage District is hosting a mandatory pre-bid meeting for the closure of its sludge landfill on January 11th at 11 AM, at the treatment facility located on Gavel Road. Full plan sets are available through Sevee & Mahar Engineering in Cumberland, Maine. The bids are due on February 1st at 11 AM at the main office in Springvale. Any specific questions can be directed to the Superintendent, André Brousseau, at 207-324-5313.

Proposed Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) Ordinance 
The Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) is a proposed new ordinance that will allow owners of commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings access to alternative financing to undertake energy efficiency and clean energy improvements. C-PACE allows for longer repayment obligations, making it more affordable for property owners. Sanford already has a residential Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) in the ordinance, Chapter 289 in our Codes. This is an expansion to the commercial sector. Unsafe Streets And Roadway Opinions Needed!
Which road do you believe is the least safe for travel? We want to hear from you! The City of Sanford has secured a $200,000 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning Grant from the US DOT. This grant will be instrumental in crafting a safety action plan to reduce road fatalities and injuries in our community. To shape this Safety Plan, we're seeking input from residents via our new engagement hub, Sanford Connects. We invite you to identify the roads you believe are least safe for travel, specifying concerns for drivers, bikers, or pedestrians and indicating the time of year when these safety issues are most pronounced. Stay tuned for an in-depth survey in the upcoming weeks. Matthew Hill, Sanford's Director of Public Works, underscored the grant's significance, stating, 'The SS4A grant enables us to develop an Action Plan. Once complete, we'll seek SS4A Fund support to address safety concerns outlined in the Plan.' Additionally, this process may uncover other funding opportunities to bolster our safety initiatives.

The City of Sanford has openings for various advisory boards and committees, for appointment by the City Council at their first meeting in January 2024. Public Hearing Notice - Ordinance Changes Pursuant to the Elimination of the Office of the Fire Marshal

Sanford City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, Sanford City Hall Annex, 919 Main Street, Sanford, Maine, and by remote methods, pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. § 403-B(2)(D) and Section 6 of the City Council Rules of Procedure.  The purpose of the hearing is to take public comments on Amendments to Chapter 149 Licensing and Chapter 128 Fire Prevention pursuant to the elimination of the Office of the Fire Marshal Effective June 30, 2023.  The proposed amendments can be viewed here or by visiting the Sanford City Clerk's Office.

Fiscal Year 2023/2024 Municipal and School Budget Public Hearing

International Woolen Mill Boiler House Exhaust Stack Demolition Starting April 3rd
At the March 21st City Council Meeting, the Council accepted a bid for the demolition of the International Woolen Mill Boiler House Exhaust Stack from Dick Landry Lawncare. The demolition of the Exhaust Stack will begin on April 3rd. During demolition, (estimated end date May 1st) the Sanford Mill parking lot will be closed between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm on workdays. Emergency Ordinance – An Act to Address Parking Conflicts in the Business District School St. Parking Lot & Provide Alternative Parking
The Emergency Ordinance provides for alternative designated parking locations for off-street parking during winter snow removal parking bans with timely removal within 2 hours.

City Council Vacancy Announcement 
Sanford City Council is looking for candidates to fill a vacancy on the City Council until the end of 2023. Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest outlining their qualifications, experience and reasons for wishing to serve by February 28th. Letters of interest will be reviewed by the Council’s Applications Committee, and selected Candidates will each meet with the full City Council for a public conversation on March 14. A vote on appointment to fill the vacancy will be taken at the regular City Council Meeting on March 21.

Hay Brook Bridge on Bernier Road, Sanford - Notice of Immediate Closure

Please be advised, by written notice of MaineDOT, that Hay Brook Bridge on Bernier RD in Sanford will be closed immediately. The Department of Public Works DPW forces will be placing appropriate signs and traffic control devices according to the MUTCD.

Rail Trail Policy Adopted 4-19-2022

City Council adopted the Rail Trail Policy on 4-19-2022, effective immediately, the Rail Trail Policy governs the City’s Rail trail from the southern terminus in Lebanon to the northern terminus at Shaw’s Ridge.
