DOWNTOWN DESIGN GUIDELINES 
These Design Guidelines are intended to assist the owner, developer, architect, and other consults to understand the basic design goals set for the development of Sanford’s downtown area and provide the Council with a yardstick against which new projects can be measured.

COMPLETE THE STREETS 
Complete Streets is an approach to planning, designing, building, operating, and maintaining streets that enables safe access for all people who need to use them, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities.

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international membership association of transportation professionals who work to improve mobility and safety for all transportation system users and help build smart and livable communities.

WALKABLE COMMUNITIES, INC. 
Walkable Communities was established in the state of Florida in 1996. It was organized for the express purposes of helping whole communities, whether they are large cities or small towns, or parts of communities, i.e. neighborhoods, business districts, parks, school districts, subdivisions, specific roadway corridors, etc., become more walkable and pedestrian friendly.
