Application Criteria: * Items must accompany initial Application


  • Current MCJA certified Police Officer job postings
  • Current Non-Certified Police Officer job postings
  • Submit a completed application.
  • * Possession of High School Graduation Diploma or GED certified
  • Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Police School certification highly desirable or out-of-state equivalent
  • * Fingerprints
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • No felony or multiple misdemeanor convictions
  • No extensive driving history or multiple accidents (Reviewed on an individual basis)
  • Certain singular misdemeanor convictions will disqualify an Applicant (Theft, Spousal Abuse/Assault, Sex Offenses)
  • Satisfactory completion of Alert Test
Failure to submit a complete Application will disqualify a prospective Applicant.

After Application Review: (if selected for further processing)
  • Physical Agility Test (Picture ID required) (Medical Waiver required)
  • Applicant Oral Board (Picture ID required)
  • Extensive Background Investigation
  • Chief's Oral Board (Picture ID required)
Note: An Applicant may be disqualified at any stage of the processing procedure.

If Appointment is offered it is contingent upon:
  • Psychological Examination (Picture ID required)
  • Successful completion of a complete Physical Examination by a qualified Physician (Picture ID required)
  • Polygraph Examination (Picture ID required)
If Appointed:
  • Completion of Maine Criminal Justice Academy, Law Enforcement Pre-Service, Phase-I and Phase-II, or out-of-state equivalent
  • Probation Period including 1 year State Probationary Period beginning after successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy
  • Successful completion of a 15 week Police Training Officer (PTO) program.
